Jiplak is a short film about Ali and Aman, brothers who at such a young age, are already fending for themselves. They are both earning money for their livelihood, working for Uncle Aru at his modest sundry shop and in Aman's case, doing many other side deals to make both their lives a little less of a burden; one of them being making and selling bootleg cassettes. This little side deals however, are unknown to Ali, the younger brother, as he dares not to expose him to his other shady dealings, preferring for him instead to keep it legal. This shade of the truth, however, begins to unfold in Ali's eyes as Aman's under-the-radar dealings overlap with their shared source of income. Will Ali take it lightly and understand, or will their shared and trusted mutual bond begin to tear apart?
I was born in a big family, there are thirteen of us, including my parents and I, and I'm the fifth in the family. Our siblings were highly unsupervised by adults back then, and most of my childhood was spent outside my mom's tailor shop in Alor Setar, Kedah. The tailor shop also act as my house, it was small, and we had no extra room to sleep or rest during the day. I was left to spend most of my time reading comic books, finding coins and tokens from arcades game a few blocks away from my mom's shop. When other kids spent their evening in piano classes or tuition, I spent my spare time looking under arcade machines or guessing the next 4D number for old people that would pay me for each set of numbers I wrote down for them. There are too many memories, and interesting incidents happened when I was a kid. But, I was never actually alone as my older brother would always spend time with me as we had nowhere to go.

One particular incident that inspires me to make a film about my childhood happened when I was 9 years old. I happened when I was working at a small comic & music shop. The owner trust me and give me task to find the culprit who kept stealing the cassettes from the shop, and I took it seriously, putting all my effort into it. Each day I would look and spy at every customer that visit the shop. One day, I was so surprised when my older brother entered the shop, and I caught him red-handed stealing the music cassettes. So, I was in a big dilemma either to cover up for him or be honest with the owner and reveal the thief. This particular event has inspired my writer and me to write Jiplak.
The funds we receive from this crowdfunding will be able to help us in covering the costs of:
1. Equipment rental
Most of the budget will go to renting Camera Accessories, Lighting and Grip. Our cinematographer and director have a clear vision of how the film should look like so we need particular equipments to make this film successfull
2. Logistics
We have several shooting locations including Shops, Roadside, Car and etc in 4 days of shooting. We will pay the fees and permits of the locations, foods and accommodations for crew and cast.
4. Art
This will cover the props for the film, in which we are going for the 1990s look which need very detail art design. The budget will also go into building a set for a particular scene and to cover the cost of the makeup for the cast.
5. Cast
Funds will also cover up the payment of the actors for 4 shooting days.
6. Marketing
We are making this film with the aim that it would travel to national and international film festivals. The funds received will be used to enter these film festivals and for the film to be able to be screened.
Herer is a general look of our film. We want to make it as natural as possible because when you see the film, we hope you could relate and feel somewhat close to you when watching it.

As our film is inspired by real-life people and real stories, it is much of a challenge for us to find the right cast with the right chemistry who would be able to emote genuine feelings towards each other on screen.
Besides casting, our greatest challenge is soliciting funds for the production of our film. As we are still students and not in the working field yet, we are unable to proceed with our production and are in dire need of financial assistance. These funds will be used to recompense our cast and care for our amazing crew in terms of accommodation and meals.
At the end of the day, it is important to us as a team to not just produce a beautiful film, but also a meaningful one. We want our audiences to be able to reflect back on "JIPLAK" and relate it to their own personal memories.
